Provocative questions

In your recommended scheme, the same pump supplies underfloor heating too. How is this possible?

And we had a similar issue when at the beginning, pandering to fashion we allowed to install our boilers according recommended multi pump systems and waste time trying to combine them: how can one pump work without any interference if another pump receives a command from the automation, switches on and pumps out water from the same place, or how can you ride a sled if they are pull in all directions?

If one pump supplies several radiators, why it should not be enough for the underfloor heating coils? True, they need a cooler carrier and the way it is made you can see in our recommended scheme and its description.

Why do some shopping arcades as well as plumbers-installers sometimes recommend not buying your boiler it supposedly has a lot of problems.

Thus, the main problem is that saving the user money we request to install boiler according to the scheme, through which the boiler functioned fuel-efficiently and is long-lasting but the scheme does not require many pumps, 4-way, 3-way, relays and other components, which can be profitably sold or reserve a discount. Thus received such expensive and irrational offers for renovation the most of owners of houses have reached such an expensive and irrational renovation proposals remain to old-fashioned gravitational heating system with thick pipes or even to tile stove in order not to spend too much money. Moreover, when people try to save money, they refuse to get professional services, install themselves, make mistakes, and the consequences of these mistakes are various.

However, the number of companies, which appraise the above mentioned situations and see they received more and more orders, and at the same time offering more rational and cheaper solutions they earn more, is growing.

When we open your door, a gasket and weld seams are seen. Why do you not use your competitors’ experience and not make door more shapely inside?

It is enough our own experience because our first door was just like these – nice inside. However, it was needed to make doors in such a way that the gasket which is between the external water shirt could be seen, the doorjamb would be affected minimally by heat, and the gasket could be changed or repaired without removing doors. Nevertheless, users do not have any complaints because the reliability is more important, especially where beauty is not required, as in this case: when the door is open during the process of firewood loading only black sooty surfaces and alike can be seen.

I wanted to buy your boiler, but sometimes negative reviews can be found even in your website. Thus I bought a different one and disappointed but my neighbor uses your boiler and is happy. Why do you not remove any of anti-commercials from your window, not provide any of shortcomings of other boilers or not say the way your boiler is better than other boilers?

It is indecent to take away the consumer’s right to choose. It is more indecent to reprobate traditional boilers or heating techniques because they helped humans survive centuries. Meanwhile the forum in our window is useful and interesting because it describes not only successes but also failures. Then the customer discovers that the boiler can not operate without a chimney, that sometimes it is necessary to change the hardened sealing rope, that firewood is more useful when it is dry, that it is needed to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for connecting the boiler to the system and maintaining, or that there is no need to panic when the operation of the boiler disrupts because you simply need to go to our service team.  We did not leave any user to fate, whether he is here or thousands of kilometers away.

Questions about the boiler

How tall should the chimney be?

In order not to modify the exterior of the house, architects specifies the height of the chimney should be as far away from roof vault as higher but not necessarily above roof vault. But sometimes draught become worse because of objects, other buildings or trees which are near or around the house. In such cases, the draught depends on the wind direction and a chimney has to be heightened. If it does not help, you can use the smoke extraction fan or injection manifold. It is useful to install air fans in the wall of boiler room because cleaning the boiler there will be less dust, the boiler room will be cleaner but if you want that the cold air does not ruin the mood it is useful to route the pipe from the fan to the boiler, where air will be warmed, or will fall into the boiler.

Is it possible to burn straw briquettes?

Yes, but only in an universal boiler because the ash content of straw briquettes is the same as the ash content of peat.

A newly built house of 200 sq.m. What boiler – s20 or s40 – is better to install and why?

If the boiler has a bi-thermal regulator, the model s20 is better, because the boiler will often operate in low mode. If the boiler has the electronic control, the model S40 is better because when rooms will be warmed, the boiler will be extinguished, and when rooms will cool off, the boiler will operate optimally and cost-efficiently until rooms warms up. Thus rooms and objects in them will serve as warmth collectors.

It is possible to connect 40s model to the chimney of 150 mm diameter? It is possible to connect 20s model to the chimney of 130 mm diameter?

The boiler will operate with less power but still will function. If it is not enough power, an injection manifold will be installed.

What should be the chimney draught?

It is commendable because your question shows that you are using a draught stabilizer. If you burn very small pieces of wood waste, you have to set stabilizer for 10 – 15Pa. If firewood is large, set for the maximum (35Pa). Solid fuel is various and draught must be chosen according to the operation of the boiler. In order to keep the data which was set on a stabilizer, the chimney draught shall not be less than 40Pa.

Is it possible to modify a wood-fired boiler to a universal boiler?

It is profitless, and a better solution is to co-operate with us.  We evaluate the condition of the boiler, then you pay the difference, and we will bring a new universal boiler. Moreover, sometimes we have used boilers from a laboratory or ones which were changed due to power mismatch.

How often should a boiler be cleaned?

If the boiler is installed in accordance with our recommendations, the resin does not accumulate in the chimney or on the walls of the boiler but small dry ashes fall into the smoke swirl hole and at the bottom of the chimney. Thus it is useful to clean them one a month.

What kind of firewood is the best for the boiler Stropuva?

Any kinds of firewood which is dry.

What coal should be used?

All kinds of coal.

Can propilenoglucol , etilengliucol, or antifreeze damage the boiler?

Contrarily, these liquids are even healthier for the boiler ant the whole system. However, sometimes manufacturers of these liquids state in their instructions that the liquid is harmless to health only if the heating system is tight. Thus, only the system will be responsible for your health. These liquids are used to prevent freezing of the heating system. And what is about the water supply and sewerage? Leave the boiler and circulation pump turned on 30ºC. Then you will consume little electricity and three systems and health will be saved.

Is it possible to use the cleaning powder and what do you recommend?

If cleaning powder is not harmful to the environment and to living things, you can use it. But be careful because sometimes it is noted even on the packaging or in the instruction that all detergents are harmful and when they utilized in boilers, environment and health suffer.

How long do an air distributor and a telescope last?

We have never seen any telescope which was burnt. Sometimes we change the distributor after 8 years, on average, every 4 years, and sometimes after a month – it depends on the way the distributor is used. Sometimes we recommend changing the distributor which is not worn-out because this component is still developing and evolving. In practice, monitoring the product and investigating scientifically worn-out components along with our partners it was found that the distributor and the last tube of the telescope operates in an environment where the temperature is not critical but it caused aggressive conditions for oxidation.  Therefore metals which withstand high temperature but are less resistant to oxidation are not suitable.

What happens if the power fails when the boiler is burning?

Damper closes fully when the temperature will turn to a critical maximum (80 – 90ºC). The water in the boiler does not boil even when the temperature rises to above 100 ° C because the pressure is higher than atmospheric. When a high temperature is reached, the boiler cools, giving about 1kW to the environment, even if the pump does not operate.

If there is a leak in the boiler, the boiler can continue to generate heat and boil. Then the safety valve let off steam and boiler is supplemented with water from radiators of the above. If the valve is burnt (it is noted in the valve user manual that the valve should be periodically turned) or an inexperienced craftsman closed the valve to avoid dripping, or replaced it with the valve of 6 bars, the pressure rises and the inner wall of the boiler sinks. Thus the life of boiler ends.

At what temperature I should adjust the closure of the damper?

A damper closes fully when the temperature will turn to a critical maximum (80 – 90ºC) whereas during the operating mode of 60 – 70ºC the damper will be a little bit open.

What the return water temperature should be to prevent condensation? What is the best water flow through the boiler?

It should be about 30 – 40 °C in the 500 liter boiler. It is unprofitable when the condensate is formed in a hot zone above the flames because drying the condensate emits the cool, moisturizes and extinguishes firewood and damages the boiler. If the condensate is formed under the combustion place which is cooler than the condensate, the condensate cools giving power but it is less harmful to the surface of the boiler because it is cool and less oxygen under the combustion place. Therefore it is important not to exceed the heating water flow and when the boiler switches to lower power, the flow should be proportionally reduced as it do makes the radiator thermostats.

Radiator thermostats have a graduated flow pre-setting. A practice shows that 1 section complies with 1kW. For example, if it is a boiler of 20kW and there are 10 radiators, nuts of the flow setting must be set on 2. At this setting radiators can warm unevenly, thus positions have to be changed. But if a poorly warmed radiator is turned on 3, the other one must be set on 1 in order to ensure that the sum of the numbers is 20. If there are more or fewer radiators ensure that the sum of flow setting numbers is about 20 and the initial flow rate through the boiler will be much more suitable. Thus when rooms warm up, the flow will gradually decrease and the boiler will work more slowly.

True, the boiler must be connected consistently according to our recommendation because when the boiler is installed parallely, it may be that the system does not enough flow and its operation disrupts. It is even worse when the activation of the additional boiler pump resists the system pump and stops it. This is why we suggest to follow our recommendations.

What is the boiler efficiency when the boiler is operating at maximum or minimum mode? What is the minimum mode which the boiler can work properly at?

At the maximum, as well as at 30% from the maximum power mode, the boiler fulfills the conditions of European standards. 20% – 15% are lightly above the levels of CO emissions but there is no fuel loss because CO losses are compensated by a more cooled smoke. However, when the weather warms up, the air damper opens a little bit, fuel starts to smolder and losses are incurred.

What certificates does the product have?

The boiler is awarded a certificate for the market of CIS countries RU Nr.0013066, CЄ Nr.0662 / 0288/05, which was issued on March 18th, 2005 including SPCS SPSC-6729 certifications. True, the latter expired and it is a bizarre that we can not extend because the product is non-standard. We will standardize but we do not want to hurry because it is necessary for the standard that a product has a well-established design. Every new product must pass a non-standard way of development and standardization process itself lasts a long time. However, in Europe, it is allowed to produce and use non-standard products according to EN ISO / 17025 because Innovations and new quest created the world as it is now.

How long does the boiler last?

The first boilers which were manufactured in 2001 still serve. However, when users regulated the indoor temperature regulated in the ancient way and set a lower temperature in the boiler, or otherwise trespassed recommendations, boilers rusted. They did not rust at the bottom, as we expected but near the chimney. It is most likely due to the fact that liners of older chimneys did not have the edge which prevents dripping of the condensate from the chimney into the boiler. It is obvious that the condensate which is formed in the same boiler will damage the boiler. The first boilers which we produced had no bottom and were easily repaired.

Problematic questions

When 1/3 of the firewood remains, the condensate starts to drip trough the lower door and stops after an hour. Why?

It can happen that various situations occur because of features of the house, heating system and boiler wrapping but if the condensate drips through the door, they leak, possibly inject air, which does not help. It is strange that dripping stops exactly an hour later. Therefore an arrival to a place and an evaluation of the situation is needed.

What if the valve began to drop and usually is immediately dripping?

We can see that you are an installer. Therefore you should know, or at least not hesitate and read our recommendations in the boiler passport, where is clearly stated that 1,5bar valve drips if the pressure in the expansion vessel will also be 1.5 bar. In order to ensure that the spread water reaches the expansion vessel, its pressure must be less than the safety valve. Thus it requires letting off air from the expansion vessel up to 1bar. The valve begins to drop after one year or two because of the disappearance of the air in the expansion vessel and then you need to pump with a car pump the expansion vessel up to 1bar.

Why does the chimney often clog?

If the area of the chimney diameter is sufficient but it often clogs, there are several reasons. Firstly, before the heating season or during it the chimney and the inlet from the boiler is not cleaned sufficiently thoroughly because when the chimney is cleaned, the horizontal part between the boiler and the chimney must be cleaned, also the connection of the boiler chimney must be opened and the boiler smoke swirl slot must be cleaned as well as cleanup drawers which are installed in the boiler.

The second reason refers to the leaking chimney. For example, when the boiler is fired up and the chimney draught increases, cool air is injected through the cleanup drawer, a faulty liner or leaks of the hole for the bath stove which is installed in the chimney. Therefore suddenly draught disappears, the boiler is not operating, and the chimney clogs.

Thirdly, air does not fall into the boiler room. As mentioned above, the vertical exhaust ducts, kitchen or toilet fans, as well as boiler exhaust air out of the house. If the house is air-tight the tenuity of air forms, the boiler draught is getting worse; the boiler is going out, power decreases and the chimney clogs. Then open a little window in the boiler room and the power of the boiler will be restored, the problem will disappear.

Finally, it often happens that installers install the boiler according to recommendations of other boiler manufacturers but the operation of our boiler differs completely from the operation of traditional boilers. Therefore requirements of the installation differ too. For example, it is better if water is continuously streams to the boiler being cooled up to 30 – 40 ° C and 50 – 500ltr per hour. If installers install a three-way or four-way valve with the pump in a small circle to our boiler, mount thermo-relays which switch on a lot of pumps, you will get in trouble because the boiler will not increase the temperature, the condensate will drip from the chimney and the boiler and the chimney will clog after 2-3 weeks.

If firewood is wet, please dry it.

Why I have to increase the damper opening once two times of firing up the boiler. Why does it not fix?

This is mentioned in the instruction too because at the beginning of the season a wooden controller support is wet and later when it dries, the situation stabilizes. However, because of the metal attrition it has to be occasionally repaired during the season.

Why do embers lie the whole day when the boiler stops firing. How I can prevent it?

This problem occurs when a thermal-relay is used to switch on the pump and supposedly to protect the boiler from corrosion. At the end of burning the temperature decreases and the pump is switched off. If there is no circulation in the boiler, the temperature increases and air damper closes in order to hinder the combustion of remaining coals.

Sometimes an explosion occurs in the boiler and the chimney. How can I prevent it?

There are several reasons why CO excess results in the boiler and sometimes it explodes. Firstly, when suddenly closes the air damper. Secondly when firewood or wood mixed with coals is put on the air spreader. Finally, often when firewood is burned in the universal boiler, lower air is not closed because a lower door rope may be leak. When these reasons will be eliminated, it will not explode. However, it can repeat if small firewood or coal is burnt. Therefore install a chimney draught stabilizer.

Why does the condensate begin to drip from the chimney when the weather gets warmer?

The boiler operates very uneconomically in low modes. At the beginning of the season this problem can be solved by using an electronic control. Order a device and it will help us investigate your needs. Moreover, you will get it on time.

At the beginning of the combustion the boiler is pulsing. How can I avoid it?

At the beginning, until the ember layer forms, firewood generates more flammable gas and it results their excess. In order to prevent it, before firing up the boiler, leave the crater (void) under the spreader and the beginning will be stable. At the beginning of the season we will present a new spreader and there will be no the problem. If it is necessary, an electronic controller, which we are making together with our partners, will help.

Why is it smoking trough both doors, when I turn on the fan?

It can be leak because of a hardened sealing rope, a clogged chimney or a boiler itself. If previously mentioned cases are fixed, the boiler will not operate and it will be still slightly smoking through the door, if the boiler room does not get the air or the kitchen fan exhausts the air from it. Often there are no air vents to get the air inside our houses but these houses are equipped with a plurality of vertical exhaust ventilation, which aim only to exhaust the air from the house. Moreover, we turn on the kitchen fan and live home as the Highlanders in the rarefied air (osmosis). Therefore even water boils at a temperature below 100 ° C but unfortunately that air is diluted with smokes which sometimes are exhausted from the boiler or directly from the roof when any vertical hole remains defeated and begins to act contrary, i.e. down.

Questions – suggestions

Would not it be better to operate the boiler with a cumulative capacity? Why?

At the beginning, we recommended it and we installed accumulators in some boilers but one load does not heat longer when the accumulator is turned on. Perhaps the thermal capacity is also experiencing some kind of energy losses. Of course, the warmer weather or in a small house, when the boiler operates on very low power, losses are incurred too. Thus we decided to use rooms and objects there as warmth collectors, i.e. we were periodically turning off the boiler and when rooms cooled up to 1 ° C, we were turning it on again. Therefore, the boiler operates more cost-efficiently until rooms are warmed. This approach increases significantly the burning time of the load. A programmer is already developing an electronic management program. At the beginning of the heating season you will be able to apply this management to your boiler.

Did you test pellets burners? Can you give information?

As mentioned above, our company has set a goal to survive only on the production of such boilers because the whole attention of our professionals should focus on working with the development and monitoring of the invention.

Therefore we do no produce pellet boilers. However, our boiler will be modified with the electronic management for the coming heating season, i.e. when rooms will be warmed up, the boiler will be stopped. Moreover, it will be possible to program the indoor climate for the period of a day or a week. Thus the boiler will use much less firewood, the load will last longer, especially in a warmer weather.

Is it possible to install a pellet burner to the door? Will the warranty be valid?

The warranty will be valid, but we hope that you do not ask to change the door which is damaged for free.

Why do you not include cleaning supplies?

Mostly, boilers are bought in order to replace worn-out boilers. Thus, how many ash rakes will be stored in the boiler room? The other reason is that we are not able to make ash rakes or any other instruments for cleaning.

Why do you use a pipe for the telescope lifter instead of pulleys?

Because of a long-lasting pressure from customers, we will construct some boilers with pulleys. However, we recommend to buy the boiler with a pipe lifter because the oil which is between the pipe and the cord provides tightness and the boiler is more reliably going out when electricity disappears.

Why do you not make telescopes from the steel which is the most resistant for temperature?

As we said, our practice and the practice of our licensees have scientifically confirmed that steel which is more resistant to oxidation last longer in this place. It will be even worse if we use steel which is highly resistant to the temperature but not to oxidation when it is needed the resistance to oxidation. Together with partners, we decided that it is unprofessional to make the two upper telescopic pipes from expensive steel. Therefore, it will be made of black steel. Some of our partners have only recently started to produce the final pipe from the stainless steel and earlier they used to produce these pipes from black steel. Thus a dozen years of practice confirmed it. It is really good to have a partner whom we communicate well and share experiences with.

Why did you not produce boilers from a thick sheet in order that it could last very long?

First of all, we are thinking about the safety of people. Every year users damage at least 1 of 5000 boilers when they exceed the pressure. Therefore, households are allowed to use only low pressure boilers with 2B operating pressure. Our boiler withstands 4 bars but sometimes because of improper installation or maintenance the pressure rises, the product cracks inside without an explosion and building or person remains. Therefore, our product has been awarded with CЄ safety mark. Our partners, licensees, whom we have given permits to produce this boiler, follow all these requirements too.

However, in order to attract buyers some plagiarists argue that the inner wall of their boiler is 6 mm thick and more. Do not believe because no manufacturer puts unnecessarily much metal to the place where it is not needed, just because of weight. When the inner wall is thickened at least 1mm, it is necessary to thicken the outer wall of the boiler because when a boiler explodes outwards, the possibility of painful consequences rises, i.e. the stronger the boiler is, the more painful is consequences. The vehicle bumper is also made weak in order to save people’s lives.

The certification company checks periodically the thickness and mark of the metal. Steel which is designed to boilers is more expensive, and our high-speed qualitively rolling rolls are adapted only for this kind of metal. Therefore, we cannot use steel of poor quality because of two reasons. Meanwhile plagiarists are “superior” in the use of poorly performing primitive rolls but they have more opportunities to use cheaper steel.

Why the boiler is produced without a bottom?

We produced it without a bottom. Why? We did not know what we could expect over time when the firewood finishes burning and periodically the bottom heats up more strongly than water shirts. Therefore, at the beginning of the century, we have already installed several tens of boilers with a bottom. Some of our partners-licensees, with whom we share mutual experience,, produced boilers with bottoms and we were watching them. Bottoms did not burned where ashes were more rarely cleaned and thermal stresses dis not damage any boiler. There was a little bit of unnecessary fear. Today the product is manufactured with the bottom and the welded parts in it do not let easy clean out the ashes, which serve as a thermal security.

What if a pipe was inserted into the chimney in order to take away more warmth with the water which circulates in it?

Your proposal is interesting and is deeded to be tried. There are already flexible stainless steel pipes, which cost about 12 Eur/m, on marketing. Such a pipe loop can be installed when necessary mounting elements will be applied. Moreover it is possible to direct the return flow through the pipe loop and this flow will be warmed. We will try your proposal and if it is worthy of attention and safe, certainly we will bring a new product to market. However, we do not recommend to do it yourself because even the boiler room is a high risk area, and the chimney is not a toy.

If the boiler ceiling is made with water, the boiler will better take away the warmth and will be more economical.

You are right because a part of energy which can be used streams to the chimney. Therefore, in order to avoid condensation in the boiler and to measure the effect, we additionally installed a heat exchanger, which cooled the smoke up to the temperature of the heated water, behind the boiler and two indicators measured the energy of the boiler and the heat exchanger. Produced energy was risen 7% by the heat exchanger when the firewood was dry. Meanwhile when the firewood was wet, the produced energy was risen even 15%. At the beginning, we were even satisfied with the results because this is a product that helps users to save energy leaving us additional earnings but we have counted and refused: it will be saved about 43 Eur whereas the heat exchanger which is made of stainless steel (because the heat exchanger operated in the same way as a condensing boiler) will cost over 869 Eur. Moreover, a bucket or two of the condensate, which should be directed to the sewerage in order to avoid the stench, drips. We would be dishonest if we offered you an item that will pay for itself after 20 years.

Why do you not do that the warm of flame and smoke will be taken away? For example, you can install the disc (perhaps with water), which spreads the flame to the boiler walls with water, above the air spreader.

We tested your proposal. We were not satisfied with the results. The reason is that when the flame is spread outside, it will burn in a few poor fireplaces. Therefore, the air which did not take part in the combustion goes through the spaces of these fireplaces and generated CO combustible gas do not burn when it is too much cooled.
